This past week has been very good! After the game last Sunday I went to Hatfields to meet my frind Marcelo (he has been living here a year and a half- we saw the Argentina games last year)his faimly is in town and so I got a chance to meet his wife an daughter. It was nice to hang with a close friend.
The work week went very well as I continued to organize myself and ensure that our various research projects have the approporiate work force. People at work have been very supportive and helpful getting me up to speed. A lot more work needs to be done but I am on the right track.
Having a car also has been great as I have been able to get laundry and shopping done without having to bother anyone! I have been able to explore a bit and slowly am getting comfortable with moving around.
Friday's are special beacuse the Rugby World starts 9th of September and CSIR encourages people to wear jerseys or any colors to support a team. Most wear the Boke (short for Springbok the South African Gazelle and symbol of the team) Jersey. I bought a polo shirt with it...very cool. This friday we also had a Brai (that is Afrikaans for cooking over open fire) aka barbecue but you can not call it that. It was fun to socialize with co-workers!
I then drove to visit Marcelo at Kempton Park (where he lives) and we had a great time, another Brai and some Mate!! It felt great and we then watched the Unknown with Liam Nielsen actually a good movie.
Saturday I mostly did shopping and worked from home so not much to report, and today I was invited to a co-workers house for another Brai! Yes that was My Third in as many days, it was a good time and we played cricket. Overall a great week!
This week will be very exciting as we have a US Delegation visting us for 3 days! I will get to present to them on all the work we di. I think the plan is to try and get some collaborations going. I find that interesting especially because of the timing and me being here I hope it goes well. Also on Tuesday I may be moving into the "house"!!! yeah!!!
I will put up some pictures from my road trips and such a bit later. For now just know that things are well! I miss you all very dearly and well keep in touch!
